Travelers who have passed through New York City have probably spent some time in LaGuardia Airport, one of the largest travel hubs in the state. But in the future, LaGuardia is more than just a stop for a domestic or international trip. Later this year, Hugo, Nebula, and World Fantasy Award-winning author Nnedi Okorafor will reunite with her Black Panther: Rise of a Nation artist Tana Ford to tell the story of LaGuardia International and Interstellar Airport.
SYFY WIRE is proud to announce that Okorafor and Ford’s LaGuardia will be the next comic curated by acclaimed editor Karen Berger through her Berger Books imprint at Dark Horse Comics. The comic is set in an alternate world where aliens have arrived on Earth and become a part of the planet’s ever-changing society.
The cover image offers a glimpse of Future Nwafor Chukwuebuka, a pregnant Nigerian-American doctor who returns home to New York after successfully smuggling an illegal alien plant through LaGuardia’s customs checkpoint. This plant has a name, Letme, and its destiny is intertwined with Future and her unborn child.
As Future and Letme face discrimination alongside African and shape-shifting alien immigrants, Future will undergo more than a few changes as she hides a dark secret. Berger Books has also passed along a few of Ford’s designs for Future, Letme, and Citizen Raphael Nwabara, another supporting character in the book.
The first issue of LaGuardia will arrive in comic book stores on Wednesday, October 31.
