Deep Blue Sea 3: Climate change drives sharks mad in first terrifying trailer for shark-filled sequel

Fans of the Deep Blue Sea film series know the delicious pleasures of killer sharks. Not just your typical seal-chomping, accidentally-beach-terrorizing Jaws shark, but enhanced freed-from-the-Sharknado beasts in a bona fide creature feature. Now they can delight in the fact that there will be a third entry in the series, simply titled Deep Blue Sea 3. So be sure and catch up with Deep Blue Sea and Deep Blue Sea 2!

The film — coming straight to a home release from Warner Bros. Home Entertainment — is still about killer sharks, only this time it's climate change and cross-breeding that are making them extra bloodthirsty.

Directed by John Pogue (The Quiet Ones) and written by Dirk Blackman (Outlander), this take on the big bad shark attack movie positions its scientists — who include marine biologist Emma — on a lab in the middle of the ocean, where they are "observing the first known Great White mating area." There're plenty of interesting locales, seeing as the already cool water-based lab is on top of a sunken town, but the real draw here is (of course) the sharks. Deep Blue Sea 2's enhanced bull sharks are continuing to breed with great whites to make some really bananas super-sharks — which is almost certainly bad news for the scientists nosing around.

Now SYFY WIRE can exclusively reveal the first trailer for the franchise's third outing — and all those awesome, awesome sharks.

Take a look:

Those bull sharks are the goal of the bad guy, who looks to exploit some sort of "intelligence enhancement" inherent to the species for big bucks. Basically, the sharks aren't the only threats out there. Deep Blue Sea 3's cast includes Tania Raymonde, Nathaniel Buzolic, Emerson Brooks, Bren Foster, and Reina Aoi.

Deep Blue Sea 3 hits Digital and Blu-ray later this year.
