If you’re fan of the late French artist and writer Jean Giraud, also known as Moebius, then the Dark Horse Comics’ Moebius Library has been nothing short of stunning. The Moebius Library: The World of Edena was a New York Times bestseller and Eisner Award winner, and its companion The Art of Edena showcased Moebius’ out-of-print stories in a beautiful hardcover. On June 6, Dark Horse will release the second volume of the ongoing series (and fourth volume of the Moebius Library), Inside Moebius Part 2, and SYFY Wire has an exclusive first look at seven pages.
The first volume of the Moebius Library: Inside Moebius Part 1 was released this past February and printed for the first time in English, the first two chapters of this massive self-exploration of the beloved creator coming face to face with his own creations, like Blueberry, Arzak, Steel, Atan, and Major Grubert. It's rare we are able to get a look into the creative process of a master, but these graphic novels show Moebius as he pores over his thoughts and creative processes, blending both reality and fantasy as one as he comedically traverses the vast expansive desert setting of his mind, lamenting and arguing with his art, over art.
Moebius’ work is still an influential force, from his conceptual art in The Fifth Element, Alien, and Tron to his numerous collaborations with filmmaker Alejandro Jodorowsky, like the influential graphic novel The Incal, which began the Metabarons Universe. He co-created Blueberry with Jean-Michel Charlier in 1963, which featured the antihero in the Old West and ran through to 2007, becoming one of the longest-running comics and a major staple in French entertainment. These massive collections put together by Dark Horse are helping Moebius completists display his work in grand fashion.
Inside Moebius Part 2 is 264 pages in 8 3/8” x 10 7/8” hardcover format, priced at $39.99, and will find its way to your local comic shops on June 6. Take a look at the 7-page exclusive preview below.
