Warner Bros. has made no secret of its plans to leverage its library of DC Comics heroes across as many mediums as possible. One of the most ambitious elements of its multimedia plan is the $1 billion theme park being assembled in the Persian Gulf.
Warner Bros. World Abu Dhabi, due to open this summer on Yas Island, is a massive family-focused indoor amusement center featuring 29 rides and other interactive entertainment options. The park's attractions will be spread out among six themed lands: Metropolis, Gotham City, Cartoon Junction, Bedrock, Dynamite Gulch and Warner Bros. Plaza.
SYFY WIRE has the first renderings of two of the signature rides in Metropolis. The first one below is of the 4D thrill ride Green Lantern: Galactic Odyssey.
The ride, housed within the "Metropolis Observatory," is billed as an immersive tour through the cosmos, guided by none other than Hal Jordan, aka Green Lantern. Along the way, they encounter everyone from Star Sapphire to the rest of the GL corps. Immersive is the key word here, as Warner Bros. World appears to be all-in on having its visitors feel like they're stepping into the imaginary worlds of the comics and cartoons.
That immersive theme also plays into another ride at The City Of Tomorrow: Superman 360: Battle for Metropolis. Check out the rendering below:
This attraction is billed as a visual spectacle in which the Man of Steel fights Brainiac to save the city. This segment of the park also includes the replica of the "Hall of Justice" from the Super Friends cartoon series.
Warners also gave us a peek at the Justice League: Warworld Attacks ride. This is a fully-immersive dark ride that features appearances from the key members of the League against alien invaders.
Cartoon Junction promises a heavy dose of nostalgia-fueled fun. Incorporating the classic characters from Looney Tunes and Hanna-Barbera, this section of the park will have nine rides and attractions tailored for the entire family. That includes the spinning rollercoaster Tom & Jerry: Swiss Cheese Spin.
This writer isn't much for rides that spin you round and round, but he's admittedly curious about the sight gag potential...
The same goes for Scooby-Doo: Museum of Mysteries. This ride is guaranteed to be awesome simply because each car in the attraction resembles the Mystery Machine. Zoinks!
According to the press release, Warner Bros. World Abu Dhabi is still on course to open its doors to the public this summer. Yes, it's a long flight, but where else can you walk into the Hall of Justice and get a tour of the Daily Planet?
We've got a few more renderings from the park's major rides in the gallery below. Check them out and then hit the comments to let us know which ride caught your attention!
