An all-star roster of comic book creators has volunteered to contribute their talents to an anthology of more than 40 comics stories that take a stand against hatred, bigotry, racism, and misogyny. The book is currently in production. The Good Fight: A Peaceful Stand Against Bigotry and Racism is a collection of stories featuring work from such comics creators as Greg Rucka, Mark Waid, Greg Pak, and J.H. Williams III, among many others, with cover art illustrated by Christian Ward.
The anthology features wide-ranging stories with such disparate subjects as Cesar Chavez, Peter Pan, androids, and boxers. All told, the finished book will be roughly 260 pages and feature 42 full-color stories centered on hope and resistance across multiple genres, from slice of life, to science fiction, to western, to historical fiction.
Adam Ferris, founding editor of The Good Fight, told SYFY WIRE that the anthology was originally conceived as a response to the white nationalists marching in Charlottesville, Virginia, and the ensuing attacks.
“I tweeted that if anyone wanted to do an anti-white-supremacy anthology, let me know,” said Ferris. “By the next day, I got a whole lot of replies.”
Since then, The Good Fight has expanded into a broader commentary against hatred and bigotry featuring work from more than 130 writers, artists, colorists, letterers, and editors.
As of this writing, the anthology’s Kickstarter page has already raised nearly $21,000 – well over its $15,000 goal. Everything above the fundraising target – as well as all profits generated from future book sales – will be donated to the Southern Poverty Law Center.
“Nobody’s making a dime off of this. It’s definitely a passion project for everyone involved,” said Ferris.
Ferris added that it was important that the book be fun for readers. “We didn’t want to hit you over the head with how bad racism is,” he noted. “It’ll be a fun read. I can’t wait to put all (the various stories) together.”
