Seeing that the annual pop-culture pageantry known as San Diego Comic-Con erupts on Thursday (July 19-22), SYFY WIRE has been proud to host a weekly event showcasing new limited-edition artwork and merchandise produced specifically for this Southern California spectacle.
Today we're shifting to the stellar works of legendary artist, Bill Sienkiewicz, whose signature experimental resume elevated him to the upper echelons of American illustrators starting in the 1980s.
This Eisner Award-winning artist injected a distinctive abstract and impressionistic style to iconic runs on titles like DC's The Sandman: Endless Nights, Marvel's The New Mutants and Frank Miller's Daredevil: Assassin. Working in a variety of mediums from watercolors and oils, to pen-and-ink and acrylics, Sienkiewicz' characters are imbued with an inner dynamism and alluring presence that is instantly recognizable.
We are excited to offer up exclusive images from the Bill Sienkiewicz SDCC 2018 Sketchbook available at the wild western convention starting on July 18 at Booth #2614, right across the way from the Alex Ross Art encampment. Sienkiewicz will be on hand all weekend signing and selling this illuminating hardcover notebook containing a striking selection of pencil studies, roughs, character designs, and raw sketches.
"This is going to be one of the most exciting cons for me because I'll be showcasing my work in more of a gallery setting — as opposed to the usual booth setup," Sienkiewicz told SYFY WIRE. "It's gonna be a bigger space with more stuff... I literally can't wait. I have so much to get done and I'm excited to start doing more."
Those not attending SDCC 2018 are encouraged to join the wait list for this spectacular sketchbook in both SIGNED ($50) and UNSIGNED ($25) editions starting today. A full list of Bill Sienkiewicz book and fine art exclusives can be seen at his official site HERE.
