One of the most famous comics on the market, Archie, has gotten a reboot for a new generation — and we caught up with the legend who’s making it happen.

Prolific comic writer Mark Waid (Kingdom Come) has spent the last little while finding a way to retell the classic story of Archie and the gang trying to survive high school in the sleepy town of Riverdale. According to Waid, it all came down to finding the original DNA of the stories — and sometimes looking beyond the way the series has evolved in recent years.

The first issue of Waid’s retelling is already getting rave reviews, and this could definitely be one to add to your pull list (right behind Afterlife With Archie, of course). We definitely dig the art by Fiona Staples, which paints one of the most vibrant version of Riverdale we’ve ever seen.
