When Neil deGrasse Tyson is excited about something, it tends to make my ears perk up. And when the rockstar scientist delivers an exclusive message to Blastr to talk about scientific leaps, and the new National Geographic Channel series Breakthrough?
Well, that's a compelling argument to check it out when it premieres Nov. 1 at 9 p.m.
Executive-produced by Ron Howard and Brian Grazer, the series explores scientific discoveries in areas such as brain science, longevity, water, energy, pandemics and, yes, cyborg technology.
More specifically, the network describes the show as focusing on "scientific explorers from leading universities and institutions and how their cutting-edge innovations and advancements will change our lives in the immediate future and beyond."
But what makes the show especially interesting (and might lure in the mainstream audience) is that NatGeo has recruited artists -- such as Ron Howard, Paul Giamatti, Angela Bassett, Peter Berg, Akiva Goldsman and Brett Ratner – to each direct an episode. Jason Bateman and Adrien Brody will serve as narrators.
Having seen a little of the cyborg episode helmed by Paul Giamatti, and hearing him talk at length about his own research and travels for the topic, I'm actually very excited about this series.
And apparently so is Dr. Tyson. Check out our exclusive video, where he discusses the nature of scientific advancements, and keep an eye out for more about Breakthrough.
