Back in 2011, Boom! Studios grabbed the licensing rights to the storied Planet of the Apes franchise and since then has produced a jungle of cool crossover mini-series such as Planet of the Apes: Cataclysm, Tarzan on the Planet of the Apes, Star Trek/Planet of the Apes,Kong on the Planet of the Apes, and Planet of the Apes/Green Lantern.
As a salute the legendary sci-fi property's golden anniversary this year, Boom! is offering up a pair of anthology one-shots to break out the bananas for. Last month we showed you Planet of the Apes: The Time of Man #1 and now SYFY WIRE is peeling back the covers on December's Planet of the Apes: The Simian Age #1 (Dec. 26).
This second assortment of stories spotlight the hairier characters at the heart of the Apes world and blends adventures spun from both the original and modern film series, including Koba’s first efforts to halt Caesar's noble quest and a heartwarming untold story of the female ape protecting the beachfront hulk of the Statue of Liberty.
"While putting together a project to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Planet of the Apes, we knew we needed covers that popped," Boom! Series Editor Cameron Chittock told SYFY WIRE. "Fay Dalton and John Keaveney created an epic piece spanning both series, while Michael and Laura Allred provided a look behind-the-scenes as only they could. I think it'll be hard for fans to pick only one."
The Simian Age delivers a chest-pounding dose of in-universe tales by a dream team assembly of talent like writers Matt Kindt (Black Badge), Jeff Jensen (Green River Killer), and Ryan Ferrier (Kong on the Planet of The Apes); artists Matt Smith (Lake of Fire), Jared Cullum (Fraggle Rock) and Lalit Kumar-Sharma (Planet of The Apes: Ursus); and primal covers by Dalton & Keaveney and the Allreds.
