Producer J.J. Abrams and director Julius Avery’s mysterious new thriller Overlord, set in an alt-WWII and with plenty of supernatural weirdness afoot, is pushing one final piece of its viral marketing puzzle on potential viewers on the eve of its world debut.
The non-Cloverfield tale is one of Nazis, D-Day, and good ol’ soldiers trying to keep it together in the face of unspeakable horrors — some of which come from some really messed up experiments undertaken upon this universe’s version of the Übermensch. The script from Billy Ray and Mark L. Smith promises nothing but trouble for stars Jovan Adepo, Wyatt Russell, Pilou Asbæk, Mathilde Ollivier, John Magaro, and Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. alum Iain de Caestecker — especially if they didn't want to fight the undead.
Now, we’ve got an exclusive poster from Mondo’s Jay Shaw to get you in prime Nazi-fighting mood.
Check it out:
The propaganda-style poster promises "unstoppable" enemies that must be stopped, as underneath those helmets lie a bunch of evil Cryptkeeper-looking baddies. Beautiful, terrifying, and totally schlocky — we can't wait.
Overlord has its world premiere at Fantastic Fest on Sept. 22 before spreading nationwide on Nov. 9.
This article previously reported on a planned AR experience from Paramount to accompany the poster's launch, but sources confirm this is no longer in the works.
