While last week’s dramatic episode of Beowulf: Return to the Shieldlands saw the harrowing escape attempt and subsequent rescue of Slean (Ed Speleers) and Scorann (David Harewood), Thane of Wisdeth (so long, Scorann, we hardly knew ya) by our titular hero Beowulf (Kieran Bew), this week’s episode will see Rheda (Joanne Whalley) making her move to become leader of the whole of the Shieldlands.
But what she doesn’t know is that her brother Abrican (Elliot Cowan) is secretly working against her to become Jarl himself, while Slean is onto his uncle's machinations.
This week, we have two new exclusive clips from the upcoming fourth episode of Esquire Network's Beowulf series. The first one centers on Rheda practicing her pitch to become Jarl of all the Shieldlands, while the second features a tense and passionate moment between Slean and his lover Elvina (Laura Donnelly).

Here’s a detailed synopsis for Episode 4 of Beowulf:
The day of the Gathering. The fate of the Shieldlands lies moments away, but having lost some of her closest allies, Rheda’s (Joanne Whalley) chances of becoming leader of these great realms and thus preventing civil war looks bleak and her worries escalate. With the odds against her, Rheda knows that if she loses, she must fight to the death. Meanwhile, a furious Slean (Ed Speleers) must also make a sacrifice for his mother’s campaign and play his part, but in doing so, his loyalties become deeply conflicted. Later, at Rheda’s request, Beowulf and his gang are tasked with a mission to help cement Rheda’s position as Jarl of the Shieldlands, and they must make a significant journey across the epic landscape. En route, Beowulf’s party are ambushed, their mission is compromised and thus, Rheda’s leadership hangs in the balance.
Beowulf: Return to the Shieldlands is a 13-episode series based on the Old English epic poem Beowulf. It stars Kieran Bew, Joanne Walley, Ed Speleers, Laura Donelly, Elliot Cowan and William Hurt.
