The legendary planet-swallowing juggernaut named Unicron is entering our orbit today with the release of IDW Publishing's new Transformers crossover odyssey starring the robots in disguise, and your pull shelf might be too small to carry its massive genocidal story.
Written by long-time Transformers writer John Barber and matched up with striking art by Alex Milne (Transformers: The Reign of Starscream) and colored by Sebastian Cheng, Transformers: Unicron is a 6-issue, bi-weekly summer miniseries from IDW uniting a formidable alien force against one of the universe's most devastating entities.
In "The Darkest Hour," after laying waste to Cybertron's lost colonies, Unicron the Uncreator is staging a vicious attack and has its voracious appetite set for Windblade's homeworld of Caminus. Optimus Prime organizes a final desperate gamble to destroy Unicron before the insidious engine of obliteration can reach Cybertron and Earth. But even the galactic champion Autobots will be put to a grave test as the unstoppable force mounts a shocking offensive above the skies of Caminus.
"Unicron's an epic story told by epic storytellers," IDW Associate Editor Dave Mariotte told SYFY WIRE. "John Barber's been the lead Transformers writer for six years and he's still finishing threads that were there even before he started. And Alex has been at this for a decade and is somehow turning out his best work ever. These guys have taken all that's best about Transformers and combined it with all that's best about disaster movies, monster movies, superheroes, mysteries — comics as a whole — and made it into something all their own."
