Have you ever found that sometimes, it just doesn’t pay to come back from the dead? Jean Grey spent years in the grave, only to come back and find the world in even worse shape than before. Mutants are still hated and feared, perhaps more than ever. But as soon as Jean tried to improve mutant and human relations, she was framed for murder on live television.
Tom Taylor and artist Mahmud Asrar have continued Jean’s story in X-Men Red, as she gathered a new team to help her deal with the new threat represented by Cassandra Nova. Years before, Jean helped her mentor, Charles Xavier, defeat Cassandra, his evil twin, and imprison her consciousness. Now, Cassandra Nova is back, and Jean may not even realize who her true enemy is yet.
Before Jean can solve that mystery, she’s going to have to face Storm in our exclusive preview from X-Men Red #4.
During our previous X-Men Red preview, we witnessed Cassandra Nova sneaking into the mansion nearly undetected before planting a sinister thought into the mind of Storm. And apparently, Jean’s new team weren’t the only targets chosen by Cassandra.
Storm was also sent to attack Wakanda, home to her former husband, T’Challa, aka the Black Panther.
Keep in mind that we’ve seen Storm resist mind control from the Shadow King and other powerful telepaths in the past. But this time, there seems to be very little of Storm’s mind in control of her actions.
Considering the deep friendship between Jean and Storm, Cassandra made a particularly insidious choice to pit them against each other. Storm’s lucky that one of her best friends just happens to be an Omega level telepath who can probably free her mind. But first, Jean is going to be in for one hell of a fight.
X-Men Red #4 will be released on Wednesday, May 16.
