Exclusive: Realive clip will make you second-guess the merits of resurrection

At the very beginning of the trailer for SYFY’s new movie, Realive, the protagonist, Marc, mysteriously proclaims, “Before I died, I thought there was nothing after death; but the best was yet to come.” Judging by our exclusive clip below, we're guessing he wasn’t talking about this scene in particular.

The scene, which features a futuristic sick-bay/lab full of very uncomfortable patients and some woefully underprepared medical technicians, seems to take place virtually, within the “mind-writer”-inspired visions of Marc Jarvis, who, after being cryogenically frozen for over 60 years, becomes the first man ever to be resurrected.

It appears the mind-writer, which looks a lot like a brain sucker, can record your thoughts and memories. And at the beginning of the clip we see Marc sitting atop a hospital bed and playing with one. Then his voice-over invites us to see “what it might look like.” Though he gives us no indication of what “it” is, it’s definitely not something pleasant.

Whatever it is that’s ailing folks in Marc’s mind’s eye (are these memories, dreams, or visions?) appears to be so painful that at least one patient would rather run face first into a wall than endure another minute of it.

Here’s the official synopsis:

Marc is diagnosed with a disease and is given a short time to live. Unable to accept his own end, he decides to freeze his body. Sixty years later, in the year 2084, he becomes the first cryogenically frozen man to be revived in history. Marc discovers a startling future, but the biggest surprise is that his past has accompanied him in unexpected ways.

So yeah, our curiosity is piqued for when Realive — starring Tom Hughes, Charlotte Le Bon, and Oona Chaplin — opens in theaters Sept. 29, and arrives on VOD and Digital HD Oct. 3. What about yours?
