Though we’re still worried this show will devolve into a comic bad guy easter egg hunt at some point, this new footage from the rest of Gotham's season one is surprisingly strong. It dives deeper into the politics of Gotham City, the city’s underbelly and how the murder of the Waynes has thrust the balance into chaos.
Oh, it also includes a few teases of classic Batman villains. We can definitely confirm serial killer Victor Zsasz is there — and has a bone to pick with young Detective Jim Gordon — but there were also a few tantalizing peeks at what could be Scarecrow and Professor Pyg. As was the case with the pilot, the aesthetic continues to look absolutely stunning. Seriously, this show is hard-boiled gorgeous.
If they can carry over the excitement of the pilot and work in some of these new arcs, we have hope this series might actually be able to work over the long haul. But it’s still stuck in that awkward purgatory of featuring a cop trying to clean up a city that we know can’t be cleaned up — or else there’d be no reason for Batman to exist in the future. But we digress.
