Some would say that if there's a movie that the world doesn't need more of, it's Avatar! But "more" is exactly what Fox and writer/director James Cameron will be giving us later this summer, as they've announced today that they'll be gracing us with Avatar: Special Edition, which will hit theaters worldwide on August 27th, Variety reports.
The highest-grossing film in history (with 2.7 billion dollars in the till) will be re-released exclusively in Digital 3D and IMAX 3D with an additional eight minutes of footage added to its already 162-minute running time. The new footage will include "new creatures and action scenes," according to a statement issued by Cameron.
But wait... this sounds like the new release definitely won't include the as-yet-unseen "steamy Na'vi sex scene" detailed in the official version of the script that Fox once posted online, in which Neytiri (Zoe Saldana) and Jake Sully (Sam Worthington) get it on, complete with bodice-ripper-y details of "trembling anticipation," and "beds of moss" and "inter-twining tendrils" and best of all, "gentle undulations!"
No word yet if a giant blue alien version of Barry White might be included to set the mood in another, yet-more-extended cut of the film that restores the sex scene.
