AMC has just released the first trailer for Season 7 of The Walking Dead during its Hall H presentation at San Diego Comic-Con, and it's as bloody as you'd hope it would be.
When we left off during the highly controversial Season 6 finale, Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) played a horrific game of eeny-meeny-miny-moe with our group of zombie apocalypse survivors, which ended in him bashing an anonymous victim’s head in (from said victim’s point of view, no less) with his barbed-wired baseball bat, Lucille. Then the episode faded to black before we knew who it was that got the bat. Pun intended.
This move enraged longtime fans who were expecting the identity of the victim to be revealed in the closing moments of the finale, but instead, they were faced with another “Glenn-under-the-dumpster” type of scenario all over again but way, way worse.
All lined up on their knees for the slaughter were Rick (Andrew Lincoln), Daryl (Norman Reedus), Carl (Chandler Riggs), Michonne (Danai Gurira), Rosita (Christian Serratos), Maggie (Lauren Cohan), Glenn (Steven Yeun), Abraham (Michael Cudlitz), Sasha (Sonequa Martin-Green), Aaron (Ross Marquand) and Eugene (Josh McDermitt).
The season premiere is said to pick up where we left off, so we’ll be taken out of our misery as soon as the show returns. Unfortunately, there’s no hint of who got “Lucilled” in the trailer below (I never thought there would be, they're keeping that one close to the vest), but we are finally introduced to The Kingdom's ruler, Ezekiel (Khary Payton), and his pet tiger Shiva. Behold!
Season 7 of The Walking Dead will premiere on Oct. 23 on AMC.
