The Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. will have help from an old friend when Season 5 premieres late this year, though we are wondering why he’ll be flying solo this time around.
Entertainment Weekly reports Nick Blood will reprise his role as disavowed S.H.I.E.L.D. Agent Lance Hunter, though no word on how long he’ll be sticking around, be it just a guest role or a more permanent posting with Coulson’s gang. Hunter left the series in Season 3, along with his ex-wife Bobbi Morse (Adrianne Palicki), after being disavowed by S.H.I.E.L.D. The move was designed to set up the spinoff series Marvel’s Most Wanted, which would’ve had Hunter and Bobbi off on their own as rogue adventurers. A pilot was shot, but Marvel passed on a series pick-up, so the duo have been MIA ever since.
Hunter and Bobbi were basically series regulars during seasons 2-3, and the show lost a lot of heart when they made their exit. It’ll be great to see Hunter back in action, though you have to wonder if there are any plans to get Bobbi back on the show. Palicki is currently co-starring on Fox’s new Star Trek-esque dramedy The Orville, though considering the less-than-favorable critical reaction to the show (it premieres this weekend), her schedule could clear up sooner rather than later.
Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. returns for its fifth season late this year, and will replace the eight-episode Inhumans miniseries on Friday nights once it wraps.
Are you glad Hunter is coming back to S.H.I.E.L.D.? Who else would you like to see rejoin the team?
