Fan-made trailer turns Star Wars into an epic, Oculus Rift VR video game

The Oculus Rift virtual reality tech has already infiltrated a few major franchises, but some enterprising fans have decided to figure out what it’d look like in a galaxy far, far away.

The company Hammerhead VR has put together what is essentially a pitch/demo concept reel of a proposed Star Wars videogame that would be compatible with the Oculus Rift. The entire project was built on the Unreal Engine 4 and shows off space flights, crazy aliens and speeder bike runs. For a fan-made demo, it looks great — and is a fascinating peek into what a full-fledged VR Star Wars game might actually look like.

This is obviously just a fan demo at the moment, but a potential Star Wars game could make the Oculus Rift an easier sell to videogamers and geeks. I mean, the tech is cool regardless, but it’s going to be a fairly significant financial investment to get hooked in. Giving us a chance to pilot the Millennium Falcon? That’d be one heck of an incentive.
