When the teaser of Sony’s eagerly anticipated Venom movie dropped earlier this month, fans were up in arms over the fact that the filmmakers took great pains not to show the titular antihero, save a brief glimpse of the alien symbiote in goo form.
Instead, studio marketers preferred to focus on star Tom Hardy as Venom’s alter ego, investigative journalist Eddie Brock, walking around to his own brooding voiceover, riding a motorcycle, and wigging out on a hospital gurney. Needless to say, that Venom-less trailer was widely panned.
Now one ambitious fan trailer has hit the web rectifying that problem—with a little help from the hit sci-fi flick Life and a few others, including Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, Alien: Covenant, It, and some of the earlier Spider-Man films.
Cut together, the disparate clips give the proceedings the foreboding tone, not to mention a lot more action, the official teaser lacked.
There's also a brief shot of current Spider-Man star Tom Holland as Peter Parker, teasing the possibility of a fictional crossover with Venom’s longtime adversary who’s currently on loan to the Marvel’s Cinematic Universe. It’s worth noting that while Venom does take place in the same-ish universe as Homecoming, Marvel boss Kevin Feige has squashed such a rumor, particularly considering Tom Hardy’s Venom is following Deadpool’s lead by aiming for a hard R rating.
But if you ask us, this is the trailer we’ve been waiting for. Venom hits theaters on Oct. 5.
