Fans of Darkmouth, rejoice! The fantasy book series is coming to the big screen as an animated film.

Deadline reports that David Pimentel and Douglas Sweetland have been tapped to helm Alcon Entertainment's animated feature film adaptation of Irish author Shane Hegarty's Darkmouth book series, with Lloyd Taylor (The Wild, Pigeon Impossible) writing the script.

Both David Pimentel and Douglas Sweetland have some great animation street cred. Pimentel was head of story for Disney's Moana and was a story artist on Oscar winner Big Hero 6. He also worked on How to Train Your Dragon and Disney's Tarzan. As for his co-director Douglas Sweetland, he worked on Storks, Monsters, Inc., Cars, The Incredibles and Toy Story. Not bad, eh?

Darkmouth is a series of books that centers on "an overeager kid who bites off more than he can chew when he prematurely jumps into the family business: hunting monsters." There are three titles in the h-i-l-a-r-i-o-u-s fantasy series published by HarperCollins Children's Books so far: Darkmouth #1: The Legends Begin, Darkmouth #2: Worlds Explode and Darkmouth #3: Chaos Descends. Seems that a fourth book may also be in the works.

What say you about Darkmouth being adapted for the big screen as an animated feature? Do you believe David Pimentel and Douglas Sweetland to be the right dudes for the job? Check out this official book trailer.
