Rather than just recapping the most recent episode of Fear the Walking Dead, each week we are going to break it down into the most interesting, weird, delightful, and mind-boggling bits.
This week, we take a look at Episode 404: "Buried." Check out our breakdown of last week's episode here.
WARNING! Spoilers ahead!
Naomi and Alicia's storyline tonight was by far the most fun. First of all, they fought the most zombies. Apparently there are lots of pools and drains for zombies to get stuck in... and get slimy in. And second, they were in a waterpark! There are few things I find more fascinating than an abandoned amusement park. A place of joy and fun with bright colors and cartoon characters, transformed into something that is empty, sad, and rotting.
I am not sure why they thought that climbing up a slide would be easier than climbing the barricade. I'm sure we have all tried to climb up the slide at the park when we were kids. Not easy. Then imagine doing it on a much larger scale, on a slide that is coated with thick algae and stale water.
Naomi is Laura
That seemed fairly obvious. What also seems fairly obvious is that she isn't dead. That just doesn't make sense from a story perspective. Why introduce John, whose main character aspect is that he is searching for a woman he fell in love with named Laura, only for her to be dead? I hope that she isn't dead, but it turns out John has been stalking her and she has been trying to escape him. That would be a nice twist on a tired tale.
Why does everyone want to run?
Maybe it is because I am incapable of empathizing with people, but I don't understand why people want to run away, be alone, set up stakes elsewhere. In tonight's episode, we dealt with that in three different storylines. Victor is ready to run because he thinks he can survive longer -- but he has already proved his love for Madison and her family. Luciana and Nick are ready to run because of the crops. Luckily Nick has a better idea: one giant run, far away, bring back supplies to try again at the stadium (which has better security than any farm you are liable to find). And Naomi wants to run for some unknown, unexplained reason. We don't know her well enough to know if she has a legit reason for running... but I am guessing she doesn't.
What happened to the stadium?
Apparently something happens, at some point, to the people at the stadium that causes it to "fall." It sounds like the Vultures are behind it, and I think we are meant to believe that Alicia, Victor, and Luciana are the only ones left alive. I already decided last week that Madison is dead. Luciana suggests that Naomi is dead, which instantly makes me believe that she isn't dead.
Is Victor crushing on Cole?
I cannot think of any other reason why Victor would just suddenly invite Cole to run away with him. After all, we don't really know Cole. He has had maybe 45 seconds of screen time before tonight's episode.
