Today, February 15th, This Day in Twilight Zone History and The Twilight Zone Encyclopedia remember three actors on their birthdays: Kevin McCarthy (1914-2010); Nico Minardos (1930-2011) and Sherry Jackson, who turns 76 today.
Kevin McCarthy starred in "Long Live Walter Jameson" as a charismatic college history professor who relates historical information as if he was present when it took place. Not surprising, since he's the oldest human who ever lived!
Nico Minardos portrayed the handsome doctor who treats a wounded alien (Geoffrey Horne) in "The Gift." Other than the little boy who found him (Edmund Vargas), the doctor is the only one sympathetic to the outer space visitor.
The lovely Sherry Jackson plays Comfort Gatewood, a backwoods girl whose boyfriend rises from the dead in "The Last Rites of Jeff Myrtlebank." Comfort doesn't know what to think. One moment, Jeff Myrtlebank was lying dead in his coffin; the next he's up and plum cordial!
McCarthy, one of the most handsome actors Hollywood has ever produced, previously starred as Dr. Miles Bennell in the original science fiction classic Invasion of the Body Snatchers.
Minardos, a Greek, survived a boating accident on location in Peru in 1966, a traumatic event that killed actor Eric Fleming (Rawhide).
Jackson was a former child star whose career dates back to Make Room for Daddy and the Ma and Pa Kettle film series.
So let's sing Happy Birthday to three marvelous actors who lent their skills to three wildly different chapters in the best seller we call The Twilight Zone.
