What's a Deadpool movie without a few satirical jokes about the competition?
The final trailer for Deadpool 2 is out, and the Merc With a Mouth does what he does best — cracking wise while kicking major butt. And this time around, he's facing off against Josh Brolin's Cable, a time-traveling mutant soldier with cybernetic abilities.
This being a 20th Century Fox film, Ryan Reynolds' Wade Wilson can't resist poking meta-fun at the fact that the actor who plays his new nemesis is moonlighting as Thanos in Marvel's Avengers: Infinity Wars, hitting theaters a few weeks before the eagerly anticipated sequel.
And of course, there's the usual meta-jokes, whether taking a satirical jab at rival DC ("So dark… you sure you're not from the DC Universe?") or teasing Brolin's past role in The Goonies ("Bring it on, One-Eyed Willie!").
All the while, the Regenerating Degenerate pulls together the X-Force to protect a young mutant from Cable's nefarious designs. Among its members are Bedlam (Terry Crews), Shatterstar (Lewis Tan), Domino (Zazie Beetz), and regular guy Peter (Rob Delaney).
Trailer aside, this latest adventure has gotten the guerrilla marketing campaign it deserves — from Reynolds serving up a Bob Ross parody and hawking Devour grilled cheese sandwiches to guest-editing a special edition of Good Housekeeping and embarking on a Where's Waldo-themed Easter egg hunt.
It's all in a day's work for the Merc. The David Leitch-directed Deadpool 2 arrives on the big screen on May 18.
