Final, movie-inspired trailer for Gotham Season 5 takes a Dark Knight Rises approach

The fifth and final season of Fox's Gotham is fast approaching, and to let us know that the end is so near, the network has released a four-minute-long trailer based on those created for feature films.

The extended final look at Season 5 may remind viewers of Christopher Nolan's The Dark Knight Rises. Gotham is now a lawless town overtaken by criminals, bridges out of the city have been blown to smithereens, and Officer Jim Gordon (Ben McKenzie) needs to team up with the likes of the Riddler (Cory Michael Smith) just to try and restore order. Oh, and Bane (Shane West) is also coming to the party, of course.

Fox is really pulling out all the stops for the last hurrah.

The last season, subtitled "Legend of the Dark Knight," will also give us our first look at David Mazouz's Batman. In fact, the last episode ever will jump 10 years into the future just so we can see the Caped Crusader in all of his glory. Going back to our Dark Knight Rises comparison, John Stephens compared the time jump suit to the one worn by Christian Bale in Nolan's final Batman film.

Season 5 of Gotham premieres on Fox Thursday, January 3, with the episode "Year Zero." Unlike previous seasons, only 12 episodes were produced instead of the usual 22.
