After several years stuck in development hell, it sounds like that long-languishing Deadpool movie is finally starting to get a little momentum.
Would-be star Ryan Reynolds, who brought the merc with a mouth to life in X-Men Origins: Wolverine, opened up with Yahoo! Movies about his pet project that just refuses to get on track. Reynolds reiterated that the script is good to go, adding theyâve managed to trim the budget â theyâre just waiting on a go-ahead from the studio.
But, good news! The project took some mysterious âsmall tiptoes forwardâ in the past few weeks. What happened? We have no idea. But with Wolverine a hit, and Days of Future Past on the way, thereâs never been a better time to release an X-Men movie.
Hereâs an excerpt from Reynoldsâ comments:
â[In] its current iteration the movieâs actually very small. There's minimal impact to the studio, which is the way we're kind of presenting it to them. We're saying 'Look, the budget is minimal. Therefore, can we do this the way it should be done?â Which unfortunately needs a Rated R or it needs those elements.
The script is probably available online, it leaked. But itâs very meta, I mean the character knows he's in a movie, he knows he's in a comic book. He names studio executives in the script. So, itâs kind of a risky property. But, you know, we'll see. It's actually, within the last couple of weeks, taken a few very, very small tiptoes forward ⦠[Will it be made] in our lifetime? Yeah, I think so. I think if I were a betting man itâll get made, eventually. I mean itâs just been developed to high heaven. It has great people around it, so we'll see.â
Do you think this flick will ever actually happen? Would you even want it to?
