As the comic rights of Joss Whedon’s work (like Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Firefly) reverts back to Fox, of course the studio wasn’t going to wait around before offering up its own take on the iconic fan favorites - more specifically, on Firefly. With Firefly #1 on its way from writer Greg Pak and artist Dan McDaid, BOOM! Studios is giving browncoats around the world a chance to really flex their fandom with the announcement of a premium box set.
Entitled the Firefly Big Damn Heroes Box, the limited-run launch collection (only 1000 boxes will be made!) includes the eight covers of the launch issue from artists Lee Garbett, Jock, Bill Sienkiewicz, Joe Quinones, and the Blank Sketch Variant, as well as tons of extras. Some of these are box-exclusive variant covers of the comic itself, like one from Tula Lotay, while others are premium editions of other products, like a Rahzzah-drawn variant cover of Firefly: Legacy Edition Book One.
The latter book is a new collection of old Serenity comics, following Mal in the first official sequels to the Firefly-verse. The box also acts as a bit of a raffle. That’s because, of the 1,000 boxes containing the final piece of art (a print from Dylan Todd), 50 will actually be signed by Whedon. What’s that, a five percent chance? I’ve never known Mal to let odds stop him.
And of course, you get the comic - which promises to tell the story of the massive civil war that kicked off the ‘verse in the first place. “FIREFLY is about to reveal one of the most iconic stories in the franchise’s history, and we wanted to commemorate it in the biggest damn way possible,” said Jeanine Schaefer, Executive Editor, BOOM! Studios.
Firefly #1 and Firefly: Legacy Edition Book One hits stores on Nov. 14.
