Stargate has been off the air since Stargate Universe took its final jump into the unknown with a big ol' cliffhanger in 2011. The franchise will finally return with the prequel tale Stargate Origins, which will stream online beginning May 15, 2018. The premiere is obviously still months away, but we now have the first behind-the-scenes footage from the gate's return.

Here we meet the cast and director Mercedes Bryce Morgan as they show off their world. We get a glimpse of an Egyptian tent city, a knife fight, and a kiss.

More importantly, we get a look at the actors. We see Ellie Gall, who plays the younger version of Catherine Langford; we also get a glimpse of Connor Trinneer as Professor Langford. <record scratch> He also played Michael Kenmore, the wraith-turned-human-turned-evil scientist in Stargate: Atlantis. Nice to see you back in the Stargate universe, Trinneer.

As director Morgan said, “We had stunts, and we had blood, and we had emotional moments.” The most emotional moment for the viewer? Hearing the music. It’s been a long time since fans have heard that soundtrack.

The series promises to fill in an untold chapter in the Stargate saga, telling an early adventure led by Catherine Langford. We still don't know exactly how this story will fit with the franchise continuity as laid out in Stargate SG-1, but if nothing else, they certainly seem to be nailing the tone — and it'll be great to step back into this world, even if it is just for a contained, online series.
