It only took a few days for Alan Tudyk’s new web series Con Man to blow its original fundraising goal out of the water and take in an eye-popping $1.48 million (and counting). Well, here’s our first look at what all that cash is buying.

The Con Man series was conceived by Tudyk (Firefly) and stars his old sci-fi pals Nathan Fillion, James Gunn, Seth Green, Felicia Day, Sean Maher, Gina Torres and Amy Acker. The Web series will be framed around an actor (Tudyk) who starred in a short-lived but beloved series (sound familiar?), who makes a living bouncing around as a guest at various fan conventions. Along the way, his former castmate and best pal (Fillion) went on to become a massive movie star.

The first clip is good, and finds Tudyk’s alter ego trying to use a restroom in peace, but still forced to juggle his lingering fame. From the toilet. There’s also a sly Fillion cameo in there. Tudyk seems to have struck an intriguing little balance here that should make for a series that is a quick, cameo-filled and fun for sci-fi fans. If he can keep the whole series this entertaining, we’re definitely looking forward to seeing what comes next.
