Entertainment One UK has released a first trailer for their upcoming horror movie, The Ritual. Let’s just say, there’s a chance you may no longer want to go into the woods after you see this one.

Directed by David Bruckner (The Signal, V/H/S, SiREN) from a script by Joe Barton (Humans), The Ritual is based on Adam Nevill’s award-winning novel published in 2011, and is produced by Andy Serkis’ production banner, The Imaginarium. (So far as I can see, Serkis doesn't appear in the movie.)

The Ritual stars Rafe Spall (Prometheus), Robert James-Collier (Downton Abbey), Arsher Ali (The Missing) and Sam Troughton (AVP: Alien vs. Predator). Fun Fact: Sam Troughton is the grandson of Third Doctor Who Patrick Troughton.

The story centers on a group of friends who go off into the Scandinavian wild for a bonding trip after the death of a friend, before it turns into a terrifying nightmare. As the trailer (and poster) says, they definitely should have gone to Vegas ...

Check out the book synopsis:

Nevill’s novel centers on four friends from college who head off into the Scandinavian wild in an effort to get away from it all and reconnect with each other. But what begins as a trip of bonding and friendship turns into a nightmare when they take a shortcut and end up lost. Some of them are injured, and they seem stranded with nothing but forest in every direction. While trying to find their way back to civilization, they come across what seems to be an abandoned cottage. Inside they discover ancient artifacts on the wall and bones scattered on the floor in a sacrificial manner. They soon discover that something is stalking them and is intent on keeping them from leaving the woods.

The Ritual will open in UK cinemas on Oct. 13. No word yet on when it’ll get a theatrical release in North America.
