Originally slated to open this year (the movie was filmed in 2015), we’re still awaiting word on when Beyond Skyline — the sequel to 2010’s little alien invasion sci-fi movie Skyline — will invade movie theaters.
While the first film was directed by the Brothers Strause, the second movie was helmed by Liam O’Donnell, a visual effects producer who worked on Aliens vs. Predator: Requiem and Iron Man 2, and co-wrote Skyline with Joshua Cordes (300, Avatar, The Avengers). The dynamic writing duo reunited for the screenplay for Beyond Skyline.
More of a companion piece than a direct sequel (the events of Beyond Skyline are said to take place at the same time as the first movie), it stars Frank Grillo (Captain America: The Winter Soldier, The Purge: Anarchy), as a “tough-as-nails detective” who “embarks on a relentless pursuit to free his son from a nightmarish alien warship.” Jonny Weston (Project Almanac), Iko Uwais (The Raid), Callan Mulvey, Antonio Fargas, Pamelyn Chee, Yayan Ruhian (The Raid), Jacob Vargas, Valentine Payen, Betty Gabriel, Jack Chausse and Kevin O’Donnell round out the cast.
The first footage below is actually a clip from the movie featuring a kickass fight scene, those pesky aliens, as well as a spaceship crash landing. I'm not exactly sure when we’ll actually get to see a trailer for the film, but it should be sooner rather than later. Check it out and let us know what you guys think.
