Since its founding in 2015, AfterShock Comics has continued to make its mark on the industry. Editor in chief Mike Marts and crew have assembled an astonishing array of talent -- Including Amanda Conner, Jimmy Palmiotti, Brian Azzarello, Marguerite Bennett, Mark Waid, Garth Ennis, and Warren Ellis -- to work on a host of intriguing titles like American Monster, Dark ArkDreaming Eagles and many more. It's an exciting publisher, and it just got even more exciting.

AfterShock announced Tuesday that writer Justin Jordan -- who co-created the AfterShock title Strayer and worked on titles like Green Lantern: New Guardians -- has teamed up with artist Eleonara Carlini (BatgirlDoctor Who) for Backways, a new dark fantasy series described as:

"There is a hidden nation. A nation of magic and madness, one that exists in all the forgotten spaces. Your basement, your attic, the haunted house down the street, anyone of those might be a part of the Backways.

"Anna Merrick lost someone in the Backways, and she’ll stop at NOTHING to get them back. Even if it means unleashing something unimaginable.

"From Justin Jordan (STRAYER, Green Lantern: New Guardians) and Eleonora Carlini (Batgirl, Doctor Who) comes the BRAND NEW series of magic, mystery and mayhem that is sure to appeal to fans of Harry Potter & The Chronicles of Narnia!"

Horror and dark fantasy comics are thriving right now thanks to series like Wytches and Harrow County, and Backways sounds like it'll fit right in. The creative team also includes colorist Silvie Tidei and letterer Marshall Dillon, and the overall look of the book is great. It's freaky, but in a playful and dynamic way. Hopefully the rest of the series will be as fun as what we've seen so far.

Backways #1 arrives December 20. Check out two covers and some preview pages in the gallery below and let us know what you think.
