Kong: Skull Island opens this weekend, but that's not the only origin story for this new-look version of King Kong. A new comic series digs into the birth of Kong and we have a first look right here.
Legendary Comics has announced the comic book series Skull Island: The Birth of Kong, a four-part series that takes a deeper look into "the mysteries of Skull Island and the mythic origins of Kong." The comic is framed as both a sequel and prequel to the film and follows a secret team of Monarch operatives who return to Skull Island to discover the truth behind the mysterious, monstrous island.
Along the way, the team learns about the ancient monster conflicts (that'd be the prequel part, we'd imagine), plus the raging war between Kong and the other monsters on the island. The comic also promises to reveal why Kong is the last of his kind, which should actually make for a pretty interesting piece of the puzzle.
The series is being written by Arvid Nelson and the first issue hits shelves on April 5. The publisher has also teamed up with Loot Crate to bring fans a first look at the series. The free preview of Issue #1 is also available through Comixology.
