With the post-Civil War II landscape coming into view, Marvel has released a first look at the U.S. Avengers series set to launch in early 2017.

Written by Al Ewing, with art by Paco Medina, the series will follow A.I.M. (now known as American Intelligence Mechanics) as it operates a super team as an official part of the U.S. government. The line-up includes Sunspot, Cannonball, Iron Patriot, Enigma, Captain America 20XX, Squirrel Girl and the Red Hulk. The publisher promises the team will be taking the “weirdest, wildest threats” in the Marvel universe.

Ewing has been at the helm of the recent New Avengers run, and judging by the line-up (and creative continuity) this looks to be the (more patriotic) follow-up. The New Avengers series has always been a fun romp, blending humor, comic book-y twists and action into an excellent little package. Here’s hoping U.S. Avengers can follow in its footsteps.

The first issue of U.S. Avengers hits shelves one Jan. 4, 2017.
