Oscar winner Brie Larson has left audiences psyched since it was announced that she'd be playing Captain Marvel for the character's stand-alone movie. Now, we get our first look at hero of the MCU’s first female-led film — and it might not be what you expect (though it's what some of us anticipated).
The leathery, greenish costume isn’t anything like the red, yellow, and blue of Captain Marvel’s current iteration, but that’s likely the point.
While theories certainly abound that the color could be for VFX purposes or as an ode to the Kree alien Mar-Vell (played by Jude Law in the film) who coined the Captain Marvel hero name, Larson's costume can’t help but look a bit like a motocross racer's getup to Twitter fans.
Look for yourself:
In the 1990s-set film, Larson’s Carol Danvers has a life-altering accident during which her DNA is fused with that of an extraterrestrial, giving the Air Force pilot superpowers and making the '90s much more interesting for one woman. The movie is currently filming and this costume will certainly give fans a lot to chew on while they wait for Marvel’s female champion to make her cinematic debut.
The Anna Boden- and Ryan Fleck-helmed Captain Marvel is scheduled to premiere on March 8, 2019, with Larson’s superhero making an appearance in the fourth Avengers film set to arrive two months later.
