With NBC’s Constantine series finally on the air, they’re not wasting much time in rolling in the classic comic characters. Who’s up next? Papa Midnite.

A new clip from this week’s episode has been released showing off the mysterious introduction of DC character Papa Midnite, played by Michael James Shaw. The scene finds Papa Midnite being mysterious, while Constantine (Matt Ryan) busts in to confront him. It looks like an intriguing scene, and hopefully it’ll be a bit of an improvement over last week’s uneven installment.

The episode follows Constantine and Zed (Angélica Celaya) as they engage in a dangerous confrontation to save a woman and her family from sinister forces. John's efforts force him to confront the darkness in his own life — while also coming face to face with a new powerful adversary in Papa Midnite.

The character Papa Midnite was introduced to the Hellblazer universe way back in 1988, and throughout the series’ run he’s been both an enemy and an uneasy ally. It’ll be interesting to see how the series plays with that gray area.

The episode “The Devil’s Vinyl,” which will introduce Papa Midnite, airs Friday, Nov. 7, on NBC.
