Let the first looks roll! A couple of weeks ago, we got our first look at Brenton Thwaites as Robin (aka Dick Grayson, aka Nightwing) in DC’s upcoming new live-action superhero team-up series, Titans. Now we’re getting an early peek at a couple of his blue-chip recruits, Alan Ritchson as Hank Hall, aka Hawk, and Minka Kelly as Dawn Granger, aka Dove.
Out of costume, you might recognize Ritchson as District 1 tribute Gloss from The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, or perhaps as Aquaman on Smallville. And Kelly showed clear eyes and a full heart on Friday Night Lights and genetically enhanced analysis skills on Almost Human, among many other credits.
Militant Hawk and pacifist Dove were originally created by Steve Ditko and Steve Skeates, debuting in Showcase No. 75 in 1968. They've shown up in multiple series and mini-series ever since, including Birds of Prey, Brightest Day, and Teen Titans, the basis of the upcoming TV series from Weed Road Pictures and Berlanti Productions, in association with Warner Bros. Television.
Dove was originally Hawk’s teenage brother, Don Hall, but after Crisis on Infinite Earths proved tragic for him, unrelated Dawn took over in Hawk and Dove No. 1 in 1988. In the comics, the philosophically opposed duo are at their best using super strength and agility while working together to fight evil, and finding a balance between Dove’s nonviolent approach and Hawk’s forceful one.
Here’s the show's official synopsis:
From executive producers Akiva Goldsman, Geoff Johns, Greg Berlanti and Sarah Schechter, TITANS is an all-new live-action drama series that follows a group of young soon-to-be Super Heroes recruited from every corner of the DC Universe. In this action-packed series, Dick Grayson emerges from the shadows to become the leader of a fearless band of new heroes, including Starfire, Raven and many others. TITANS is a dramatic, live-action adventure series that will explore and celebrate one of the most popular comic book teams ever.
Titans is set to debut in 2018 on DC’s own digital service.
