The first trailer has surfaced for Marvel Rising: Secret Warriors, a full-length animated film focusing on what is being called the next generation of Marvel heroes — with some of the Marvel Universe's strongest female characters front and center.

Disney and Marvel announced the "multi-platform" Marvel Rising spinoff franchise late last year, initially promising a series of shorts that would lead to a feature-length film. The shorts, a set of six four-minute videos called Marvel Rising: Initiation, put the focus on Gwen Stacy, a.k.a. Spider-Gwen a.k.a. Ghost Spider, but also introduced other fan favorite Marvel characters like Ms. Marvel, Squirrel Girl, Quake and Patriot, all of whom show up in Secret Warriors as well.

According to the official synopsis for the latter, "powered teens Ms. Marvel, Squirrel Girl, Quake, Patriot, America Chavez, and Inferno join forces as an unlikely, but formidable crew of aspiring heroes. When a threat no one could have expected bears down on the Marvel Universe, this ragtag, untrained band of teens have no choice but to rise together and prove to the world that sometimes the difference between a 'hero' and 'misfit' is just in the name."

The young group of fledgling warriors are given their mandate, by the way, by none other than Carol Danvers, a.k.a. Captain Marvel. Here's the trailer:

Marvel Rising: Secret Warriors will be available on the Disney Channel and Disney XD beginning Sunday, September 30, 2018 at 10 p.m. The cast includes Chloe Bennet reprising her role from Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. as Quake, Dove Cameron as Ghost Spider, Milana Vayntrub as Squirrel Girl, Kathreen Khavari as Ms. Marvel, Kamil McFadden as Patriot, Tyler Posey as Inferno, BooBoo Stewart as Exile, Cierra Ramirez as America Chavez, Kim Raver as Captain Marvel, Dee Bradley Baker as both Tippy Toe and Lockjaw, and the incomparable Ming-Na Wen (Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.) as Hala the Accuser.

Marvel has not yet announced what comes after Secret Warriors, but we're certain that if enough girls and boys tune in, there will be much more to follow.
