Freeform is going all-in on sci-fi with the new series Beyond — and fans won’t even have to wait to check out the entire first season.

The network, formerly ABC Family, has announced the new series Beyond will debut Jan. 2, 2017, with a two-hour premiere. Along with the on-air premiere, the network will also be dropping the full 10-episode season on the Freeform app and Hulu. The series follow a young man (Burkely Duffield) who wakes up from a coma after 12 years to discover he has dangerous new abilities that place him in the crosshairs of a much bigger conspiracy.

The network is touting the project as a flagship series in the wake of the network’s rebranding and relaunch. For what it’s worth, the production values in the trailer look solid, and it could certainly make for a compelling mystery. It doesn’t explicitly say aliens … but it’s aliens (right?). Behind the scenes, the series is produced by David Eick (Battlestar Galactica), Tim Kring (Heroes) and Adam Nussdorf (Once Upon a Time in Wonderland).
