Written by Gary Dauberman (Annabelle) and directed by Corin Hardy (The Hallow), the franchise is traveling back in time to 1950s Romania, where representatives from the Vatican are dispatched to investigate the mysterious suicide of a nun at the Cârța Monastery. Like all good horror settings, the real-world monastery is actually located in Transylvania, the birthplace of Count Dracula himself.

Following in the footsteps of her older sister, Taissa Farmiga, 23, plays Sister Irene; Vera Farmiga, 44, played Lorraine Warren in the first two Conjuring movies. The logical conclusion is that Irene is a possible (and younger) relative of the Warren clan, but who knows. Funnily enough, the casting of Taissa was not intentional, as Hardin didn't want people thinking he did it out of convenience, reported Digital Spy last summer.
"But she was so good in her auditions," he said. "I watched 100 auditions for this role and she had some kind of presence outside of her own body that is evident, and she's phenomenal."
The rest of The Nun's cast includes: Demián Bichir, Bonnie Aarons, Charlotte Hope, Ingrid Bisu, Jonas Bloquet, and Jonny Coyne.
The Nun will hold some scary Mass in theaters September 7.
