We haven’t seen the last of John Constantine. If you’re itching for more of the infamous demon hunter, look no further than The CW. Actor Matt Ryan is reprising the role in both an animated and live-action capacity.
Constantine is the latest addition to the online streaming platform CW Seed. Following in the footsteps of Vixen and The Ray, the character will appear in his own self-titled animated series.
Here’s the official synopsis.
“Armed with an arcane knowledge of the dark arts and a wicked wit, he fights the good fight. With his soul already damned to hell, he’ll do whatever it takes to protect the innocent. With the balance of good and evil on the line, Constantine uses his skills to face the supernatural terrors that threaten our world and send them back where they belong. After that, who knows… maybe there’s hope for him and his soul after all.”
In 2014, Constantine was adapted as a live-action series for NBC. Unfortunately, the supernatural drama only lasted a season. Yet its small fanbase remained vigilant and vocal about their love for not only the character, but specifically star Matt Ryan’s portrayal. Since the show’s cancellation, the actor has gone on to reprise the role for The CW’s Arrow and Justice League Dark.
Now, it’s been confirmed that Constantine is heading back to the Arrowverse. This time, he will join DC's Legends of Tomorrow. We’re not sure how or when he’ll encounter the time traveling heroes but he's slated to appear during Season 3. Need something to tide you over? During New York Comic Con, Warner Bros. released a three-minute sneak peek of the Constantine animated series.
