The Originals returns for its fifth and final season on April 20. The first trailer for the new season doesn't answer any questions about the big Season 4 separation, but it does introduce us to Hope, now a teenager, and gives us the briefest of glances at Hayley's new boyfriend.
When we last left The Originals at the end of Season 4, Hope (then a child around 7 years old) was possessed by an extremely powerful spirit, the Hollow. In order to free her of the Hollow's influence and prevent her from basically destroying the world, the Hollow had to be stored in another body, separate from the bloodline. Vincent split it up into four bodies (Klaus, Elijah, Kol, and Rebekah) in order to prevent it from bubbling over, but it also forces the four Mikaelson siblings to remain separate from each other for the rest of their lives (and being immortal, that's going to be a really, really long time).
Sadly, the new teaser doesn't give us any details about where the show is going to go. We don't really get a chance to see how Hope's powers have grown, nor do we see what has brought the Mikaelsons back together, and how they can be back together while keeping Hope (and the world) safe.
We also do not get to see Caroline Forbes. A favorite on the show from which The Originals is spun off, The Vampire Diaries, Caroline is supposed to return for at least the premiere episode of the season. Hope enrolled in the school that Caroline and Alaric started for magic kids, so one can imagine that she will return for more than one episode. Also, we don't get to see Alaric's magical twin daughters, who are also enrolled at the school, so you know we will see them.
But hey, it's a teaser, so we'll wait to sweat the details until The Originals airs on The CW starting April 20.
