With the release of the newest installment in the Predator franchise closing in like a tri-beam laser, we already were expecting the marketing buzz from 20th Century Fox to start ramping up sooner rather than later — but we didn’t realize it would be this soon.
The fourth standalone Predator film takes place in between the events of Predator 2 (1990) and Predators (2010), and is directed by Shane Black (Iron Man 3) working off a script from Fred Dekker. Black raises the franchise’s deadly stakes with an updated take on the hyper-powered alien race, giving The Predator’s predators the ability to fold the best genetic traits of all the other species they’ve hunted into their own DNA.
Check out the first trailer below:
The ensemble cast looks big enough to pick off one by one, bringing a band of ex-military types along as meat shields (we’re guessing) for Olivia Munn, who plays a science teacher ready to follow the alien race’s breadcrumbs wherever they may lead. From the info that's already been revealed, it looks as though it's a trail that will have our terrified human targets fleeing through the suburbs.
In addition to Munn and Jake Busey, The Predator stars Alfie Allen, Sterling K. Brown, Boyd Holbrook, Thomas Jane, Keegan-Michael Key, Trevante Rhodes, Yvonne Strahovski, and Jacob Tremblay. We’ve got our thermal targeting switched on for the trailer drop, so stay tuned. The Predator slinks into theaters on September 14.
