The CW’s darker, sexier Vampire Diaries spin-off The Originals will be back this fall, and the first trailer and intel on season two looks like a bloody good time.
Producer Michael Narducci said they viewed season one as the “gangster takedown” of the Quarter, so year two will dig into the “sins of the past coming to haunt us in the present.” As creator Julie Plec noted: When “your greatest enemy is the person who gave you life … that's a huge conflict.” A fair point.
The second season will pick up approximately three months after the season one finale, and Plec said the Mikaelsons' family issues are only getting worse as things move forward. According to her, the situation will eventually devolve into a full-on “dark, warped fairy-tale component” of the story.
When the question of crossovers came up, Plec was pretty cagey about the odds of Caroline and Klaus catching up anytime soon. She first said they’d need an “organic fit” to make it happen, then added there’s currently “no place for Caroline in Klaus' community at the moment.”
Other tidbits: Season two will feature the introduction of new character Caleb, played by Daniel Sharman (Teen Wolf); the return of Esther and Mikael; Claire Holt’s return as Rebekah; Hayley’s continued hybrid transformation; and lingering feuds for control of the Quarter.
Season two of The Originals debuts this October on The CW.
