We still have a while to wait until we get a peek a Paul Feig’s all-female crew of Ghostbusters, but the leading ladies have gotten together for the first unofficial cast shot.
All four of the new Ghostbusters cast were on hand at Saturday Night Live’s 40th-anniversary celebration, which makes sense, since the funny ladies all have ties to the long-running sketch comedy show. The shot below was captured backstage and shows off the core cast of Kristen Wiig, Melissa McCarthy, Leslie Jones and Kate McKinnon.
The film itself will apparently focus on a new team of Ghostbusters (obviously) and serve as an origin story for the all-female team, set in a world where ghosts are a new thing and first breaking out. Feig has previously said he's aiming for a "scary comedy" tone, though we're not exactly sure what that means at this point.
They’re four of the funniest ladies in Hollywood, and though it’ll be a bit of a culture shock for fans of the original, we’re excited to see what Feig (Bridesmaids) can do with the cast and the concept. If nothing else, it should be a definite change of pace when compared to what came before. Next time we see these four together, hopefully they’ll be sporting some proton packs.
Of course, that wasn’t the only connection to be had at SNL’s celebration. Original star Bill Murray got to show off his lounge-singer skills in one memorable performance, while former co-star Dan Aykroyd chimed in with a fake late-night infomercial skit.
The new-look Ghostbusters is slated to open July 22, 2016.
