Joss Whedon spent the 2008 writers' strike putting together one of the quirkiest little sci-fi musicals ever in Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog, and four years later, it's finally coming to television. Would-be supervillains, feast your eyes on the first promo from Dr. Horrible on The CW!
Originally released as a web series, all the post-Avengers buzz surrounding Whedon finally gave the project enough clout for a rights pickup, meaning the series should get a lot more exposure outside the geek ecosystem that currently knows and loves it.
Starring Neil Patrick Harris (How I Met Your Mother), Nathan Fillion (Firefly, Castle) and Felicia Day (The Guild), the musical follows a wannabe supervillain on his quest for notoriety.
If you've never seen it, it's well worth a watch just to see Fillion as the hilariously over-the-top hero Captain Hammer.
With the series set to air on Oct. 9, the network has released the first-ever trailer to promote the series for a TV audience. Sadly, it's not available for embed, but you can check it out right now over at Entertainment Weekly.
As for the odds of a sequel? Whedon has previously stated the project is dear to his heart and he wants to revisit it. But, his newly extended deal with Marvel means it could be a while until he finds the time.
Hey, how about a Dr. Horrible/Avengers crossover?!
