Sometimes people get tattoos to honor a loved one or special occasion — and sometimes that special occasion is a little indie film called Avengers: Infinity War. Recently, five of the six original Avengers cast members decided to celebrate the moment with a permanent reminder of their shared connection.
Robert Downey Jr., Scarlett Johansson, Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, and Jeremy Renner decided to get matching ink to commemorate the latest installment in the Marvel Cinematic Universe: a small version of the Avengers logo.
Speaking with EW, Downey revealed that the design was done courtesy of New York-based tattoo artist Josh Lord, who received his own version of the logo — albeit inked somewhat sloppily: "It was Johansson’s idea, and she and Evans did it in New York. Then their New York guy, Josh Lord, who is amazing, flew out to L.A., he did me, did Renner, and then we just bullied Hemsworth into doing it, and he got it. And each one of us drew a line on the artist with his own tattoo gun and it was a total massacre."
Earlier today, Lord shared a photo with Hemsworth, Downey, Johansson, and Renner via his personal Instagram account, thanking them for the experience. Downey, meanwhile, posted a video to Instagram of Lord in the midst of laying down the design.
It's unclear why fellow Avenger Mark Ruffalo opted out of getting his own logo tat, although he isn't known for having any ink of his own—but since the tattooing process can be pretty painful, maybe it's a good idea not to make the man behind the Hulk angry.
