The Flash cast on new Firestorm: 'He does not want to be a hero'

After bidding farewell to a few fan-favorite characters in last season’s finale, The CW’s Flash is getting ready to (kind of) replace one this week.

Spoilers ahead for The Flash’s Season 1 finale and Season 2 premiere!

As we learned in the Season 2 premiere, Ronnie Raymond, aka Firestorm (Robbie Amell) took to the air once the singularity opened above Central City and was (seemingly) killed, closing it and averting the catastrophe. That was sad in itself, but it turns out the other half of Firestorm, Dr. Stein (Victor Garber), actually needs another half of Firestorm to keep him alive. So the search is on for a super-replacement.

We’ll get to meet the new-look Firestorm in Tuesday night’s new episode, after Team Flash goes on a search to find someone who can bind with Stein and take on those epic powers. Grant Gustin (Barry Allen) teased that things don’t go as planned and revealed there are actually “ a couple” of Firestorm options and they have some “fun scenes” vetting the candidates.

So who wins the gig? As we’ve gleaned in some footage already, ex-athlete and current mechanic Jax (Franz Drameh) will be the new Firestorm, and Darmeh dropped some intel to TV Line on what we can expect:

“He’s not power-hungry for it, and in that respect, he won’t abuse [the powers]. Jax does not want to be a hero. He does not want these powers, [but] he has to step up and embrace it and do his job. It’s going to be fun to see this whole new Firestorm and just how Jax reacts with Stein. There’s a lot of back and forth, and it’s a love-hate relationship between the two.”

It’ll be interesting to see how a new Firestorm fits into the dynamic here, and though we really miss Amell, it’ll be nice to have someone rocking those powers once again. What’s your take on the new Firestorm?
