The campy 1980 Flash Gordon (with the Queen soundtrack, remember?) finally made its Blu-ray debut this week, but that's not the version of the sci-fi hero that's been most on our minds lately. We've been thinking instead about the remake coming from Breck Eisner that we last told you about in February, and we've been hoping for some new news.
Well, we've got some, because Eisner spoke to Fear Net recently and assured us all that he's dedicated to what he considers a dream project (which makes us happy) ... but warns we'll have to wait for it (which makes us a little less happy).
"Flash Gordon is a total passion project for me," said Eisner. "We've just extended the option and the studio's very committed in trying to make it happen. It's just a gigantic 3-D experience with years of prep, it's one of those movies you get once in a lifetime to make and for me it's been a passion of mine since I was a kid. If I could pick and just control everything I would love to make Flash Gordon, it's really kind of my dream job, but it's multi-year, in terms of writing and designing."
So what do you think? Will Breck Eisner's 3-D Flash Gordon be worth waiting for?
