Season two of The CW’s Arrow will be shaking things up in a big way, and that means we’ll finally get to meet Black Canary. But it won’t be the one you were expecting.
The Wrap is reporting that Caity Lotz will join the series in a recurring role as Dinah Drake — aka the “golden age” version of Black Canary. This apparently means the character of Laurel Lance (Katie Cassidy) will not be donning a suit and going all kick-ass anytime soon.
The new character will be introduced in a recurring role at some point in the second season, though she will reportedly grow into a full-fledged cast member later on. Dinah will also apparently “be groomed as a love interest for Arrow (Stephen Amell).” Yeah, we all remember how great it went the last time he hooked up with another vigilante.
As for her resume, Lotz has had roles in the 2012 horror flick The Pact and AMC’s acclaimed series Mad Men.
It’ll be interesting to see how the writers plan on introducing the character, and how Lotz will fit in with the rest of the cast. This is definitely a risky move, since most fans have been waiting patiently for Laurel to take up the mantle, but if they can pull it off it’d make for a nice twist.
Are you glad they’re bringing in a different Black Canary, or would you prefer to see Laurel grow into the role?
